The first poem has not yet been titled, and it goes:

I met this unusual heart
With lion eyes and a lion heart
With a nervous tongue
I didn’t know where to start
Talking wasn’t easy
Her attraction was quite pleasing
I thought to myself
Was this the wrath of love
Step by step
Day by day
Watching her disappear
As she walked away
Holding hands talking and laughing
I asked the question
She was scared to ask
“Will you go out with me?”

The second poem is titled Decieved, and it goes:

To break my heart
Day by day
And live our life in the same old way
I believed you were something true
But I was blind,
I’m such a fool.
Your sparkling smiles
And loving embrace,
Coveting that your heart was in another place
I never knew
And you would never tell
You left me in the dark
Thinking all was well
Your double life
Of living lies
Feeding me your poison
While I thought you were kind
I couldn’t believe
You’d had me in love
You were different
You understand true love
But know
The truth is a shining light
What’s done in the dark will always come to light!

Once again, congratulations to our students for having their respective poems chosen for publication in the Polk County Poetry Anthology.
