Million Father March Held on August 15

Donald E. Woods Opportunity Center is participating in the Black Star Project- Million Father March, to enhance parent involvement and promote volunteerism in our schools. The March encourages fathers, stepfathers, foster fathers, grandfathers, big brothers, and other significant male caregivers to take their children to school, on the first day of school, August 15, 2016.

This initiative started in 2004 in Chicago and has grown to over 600 cities. Research shows that children whose fathers take an active role in their educational lives earn better grades, score higher on tests, enjoy school, have fewer disciplinary actions and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college. We are inviting the male figures in our students’ lives to come to school with their child the morning of August 15th from 7:00am – 7:30am. Please sign in at the front office and you will be escorted to our media center for light refreshments with your child. We look forward to having you!
